The Saint Louis Billikens opened the 2009 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament with a 2-1 victory over Missouri State Thursday night at Hermann Stadium. Senior James Dice and sophomore Mike Roach tallied for the Bills, and senior keeper Ross Kaufman made eight saves to secure the win. It is the second year in a row SLU earned a victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Plymouth boys basketball coach Kevin Stuckmeyer admits there was a degree of uncertainty and discomfort during his inaugural season with the Pilgrims. With a new coach, new assistants and a new system that comes along with them, some growing pains are certainly to be expected. But with a year under his belt, Stuckmeyer is confident that the lessons learned during his first season will bear fruit this year and in the future for Plymouth.

The 19th-ranked Missouri State men's soccer team (12-3-2, 7-1-1) will face the Evansville Purple Aces (11-7-1,5-4-1) in the semifinal round of the MVC Tournament on Friday, November 13. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. With a win over Evansville, the Bears will advance to the championship match to face the winner of Friday's Creighton-Drake semifinal. Missouri State defeated Evansville, 1-0, in both matches this season.

No. 22 Missouri State clinched the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title with its 1-0 win over Evansville this afternoon, marking the third regular-season crown for the Bears, having won it previously in 1999 and 1997. The win is the Bears seventh straight, the longest winning streak for Missouri State since 2004. Drake moved into sole possession of second-place in the league standings with a 4-1 victory over Eastern Illinois, behind a pair of second-half goals from senior Garrett Webb. SPRING

Josh Stevens scampered in from 32 yards out with 10 minutes, 35 seconds remaining to lead the Danville High School football team to a 23-20 win over Cardinal in a Class A District 5 game Friday in Eldon. Chaz Williams and Jeremy Jacobs added touchdown runs for Danville. Stevens led the Bears in rushing, tallying 90 yards on 15 carries.

The Lakewood football team saw many of its same problems resurface this week in a homecoming loss against Columbus Academy. Although the offense showed some potential, the defense still struggled to avoid giving up the big play. Three of Academy's touchdowns were on plays that went for more than 50 yards in a 49-6 win against the Lancers in a Mid-State League-Ohio Division game.
